Rocket Club at the Redwood County Fair

Minnesota based, chart-climbing, country rock band Rocket Club launched its newest single North Country May 26 on iTunes and Amazon.com.  North Country is a country rock single that pays tribute to northerners’ love for weekend getaways “up north.” North Country is the title track from Rocket Club’s upcoming third album by the same name. The song has already been called an “Anthem to the North” by Minneapolis country music station K102.

Rocket Club also released a music video of the song which showcases the band hitting the road and heading up north interspersed with vintage home movies that could have come from anyone’s personal collection.  The music video can be seen on YouTube and at the www.rocketclub.info. They just played Country USA Festival in OshKosh, WI, and will be playing at WE Fest in August!!!!  Oh did we mention they are also playing at the Redwood County Fair this year!!

Rocket club will be opening for Trailer Choir at 8pm on Saturday, July 9th at the Redwood County Fair, hope to see you there!!

Warrant is coming to the Redwood County Fair

Rock band Warrant will be headlining at the Redwood County Fair’s Everstrong Community Stage on Friday, July 8, 2011!

With a pair of double-platinum albums, Warrant was and still is one of the most popular rock bands of the late ’80s. Formed in Los Angeles in the mid-’80s, the group’s live show carried them through many changes in the music world. They released “Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich” in 1989; by the middle of that year it had climbed into the Top Ten and launched the hit singles “Down Boys,” “Sometimes She Cries,” and “Heaven,” which reached number two (Only to be knocked down by the infamous Mili Vanilli). As bassist Jerry Dixon quotes “We like to think ‘Heaven’ was a number 1.5 hit single”.

Next up was the band’s 1991 release of Cherry Pie, which not only broke the sophomore jinks but shattered it. Cherry Pie yielded the band 3 Top Ten Hits, 3 number one MTV videos and more platinum albums. Cherry Pie featured the now classic songs  ”Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, “I Saw Red” and “Cherry Pie.” Their third album, Dog Eat Dog, released in the midst of the Grunge takeover, managed to hit Gold status. In true Warrant fashion they continue to make viable records that include “Belly To Belly”, “Ultraphobic”, and the 2006 release of “Born Again”. Look for their next studio release in 2011.

Many bands have come and gone over Warrant’s 21 years as a professional recording artist, but one thing remains: Warrant is here to stay and is now better than ever!

The opening act will be announced at a later date.

Shelly Kooima is proud, honored and excited to be your new 4-H Program Coordinator for Redwood County.  Deb has left some big shoes to fill and she ready for the challenge.   Some of you may remember Shelly, as she was the summer intern here in Redwood County in 2004 (Deb’s first year) and 2005.   Those were very memorable summers in her life and she hopes to make many more in the years to come.

Shelly was a ten year plus member of 4-H in Brown County where she focused on livestock and some general projects.  She graduated from South Dakota State University where she majored in Agriculture Business and minored in Agriculture Marketing.  Throughout her college years, she stayed active in clubs and organizations.  Shelly spent her summers working a variety of jobs including the summer internship and working with her father raising/showing purebred Hampshire hogs.  After college, she moved to northwest Iowa.   Shelly worked as an animal pharmaceutical rep at Vet Pharm, Inc., customer service at Trans Ova Genetics and finished out as a small animal tech at a vet clinic.

Shelly and her daughter, Kenzie (3) are very excited to be back in Minnesota!  Shelly looks forward to working with such a strong and devoted 4-H program.   Feel free call or stop by the office anytime and introduce yourself. Shelly looks forward to meeting and getting to know the members, parents and volunteers of Redwood County.
